Cells Gone Wild: A Case Report on Missed Acute Leukemia and Subsequent Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation in the Emergency Department

Introduction: Emergency physicians must maintain a broad differential when seeing patients in the emergency department (ED). Occasionally, patient may have an undiagnosed, life-threatening medical condition not related to presenting chief complaint. It is imperative review all ordered laboratory tests and any available previous values assess for abnormalities that warrant further evaluation. Case Report: This case report regarding missed diagnosis of acute leukemia subsequent disseminated intravascular coagulation 27-year-old male who presented multiple EDs with unrelated complaint finger ring entrapment. ultimately succumbed his illness. Conclusion: When evaluating ED, it important prior test results abnormalities, even if do specifically correlate remain vigilant avoid missing critical diagnosis.
